I am looking for an engineering guide to designing OBD II, CAN only test equipment. I've got a few standards that are involved (ISO-15765, SAE J1979) but each one references other standards.(ISO 11898, ISO 14229, J1978....) It seems like a good book on the subject could cover the basics a lot faster than the 1000s of pages in the standards but I haven't been able to find one.

If one of the standards I haven't purchased is the key I need, that would be good information too.
