I have been designing both J1939 and NMEA 2000 (as well as other CAN based protocols) software products for quite some time. However, I now have been given the task of auto detecting which flavor of CAN I am connected to. Initially it will be limited to J1939 and NMEA 2000. I have some ideas on how to do this but was wondering if anyone has done this before. I haven't figured out a sure fire method that would work for all cases. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
